Kansas has some of the nation’s highest property tax rates
By Dave Trabert Kansas Policy Institute – Our 2021 Green Book shows once again that Kansas has some of the highest property tax rates in the nation.
Iola has the dubious distinction of having the highest effective tax rate on commercial property for rural areas in the nation. A property valued at $1 million with $200,000 in fixtures pays over $61,000 in property tax, for an effective tax rate of 5.1%. The same property in rural Utah pays just $15,000.
